How to Get Your 2019 Spring Cleaning Done in Just One Day
That’s right. In just one day, you could have all your spring cleaning done.
It’s ambitious, but you’ve got this.
According to the American Cleaning Institute – yes, there is such an institution – about 75% of American households participate in some form of “Spring Cleaning” every year, with most of the remaining 15% doing some form of springtime “deep clean” every few years.
It’s true — almost everyone does some spring cleaning, but that doesn’t mean it’s any fun!
Our recommendation?
Don’t procrastinate. Here’s how you can get it all done in just one day:
Gather All Your Supplies First
Before you can conquer your spring cleaning, make sure you have the right tools for the job.
Few people enjoy the big task of cleaning out their home each year, and interrupting your rhythm to get new supplies can be an excuse to procrastinate.
Make sure you have everything you need up front and make an easy-access pile of supplies to ensure you don’t have an excuse to quit this marathon!
Make a Schedule
Once you have gathered your arsenal of brooms, floor cleaner and trash bags, take a minute to review all the rooms you need to tackle.
Write this list of rooms down or consider inputting the it into the notes app on your phone.
Here’s why.
Lists are motivators and rewards. In fact, some psychologists believe that our brains release small doses of dopamine when we physical check off a task on an ordered list. So, every time you finish cleaning a room, your checklist will make you feel great about the work you’re doing.
Keep Time
To make sure you finish spring cleaning within a day, it is important to keep track of time. You don’t want to take too long working on a single room!
This doesn’t mean that you need to set a time limit for each room, but you should be conscious of how much time you’ve spent cleaning each space.
Use a stopwatch to track yourself, or set a timer that goes off every 45 minutes. There’s probably a space you are dreading to clean on that list you’ve made, and you may subconsciously try to avoid it. The idea is not to keep you motivated and moving.
Another tip?
Make it into a game! Track your “best times” in each room and try to beat it.
Do the Dishes
While you’re working on your deep clean, make sure you’re not forgetting about some of those daily chores like laundry and dishes.
Since dishwashers, dryers and washers can all work in the background, consider starting your day with a load of laundry and dirty dishes.
You can even use the timers on these appliances to help keep you time sensitive as you work through that cleaning schedule you made!
